EN: The first station building of Dietikon was opened in 1847. It was on the first Swiss railway line from Zürich to Baden. It consists of a brick section with the guard apartment and the departure lounge, as well as a wooden shed at the back, both under a common pitched roof.

Soon after the opening, it turned out that the building had been built at an awkward location. It was on the wrong side of the tracks, seen from the city. Thus, in 1867, it was replaced by a new, larger building, which was located just opposite. This one was demolished in 1976, after the construction of the third station about 200 meters south of it.

The old station was used as an apartment for many decades. Today, a model railway club has its clubhouse here. Due to its location, the building was able to survive without major changes and is now one of the oldest surviving station buildings in Switzerland.

DE: Das erste Bahnhofgebäude von Dietikon wurde 1847 eröffnet. Es lag an der ersten Schweizer Bahnlinie von Zürich nach Baden. Es besteht aus einem Backsteinteil mit Wärterwohnung und Wartehalle, sowie einem Holzschuppen an der Rückseite, unter einem gemeinsamen Satteldach.

Schon bald nach der Eröffnung stellte sich heraus, das für das Gebäude eine ungeschickte Stelle gewählt worden war. Es lag, vo der Stadt her gesehen, auf der falschen Seite der Geleise. So wurde es schon 1867 durch ein neues, grösseres Gebäude ersetzt, das gleich gegenüber lag. Dieses wurde 1976, nach dem Bau des dritten Bahnhofs etwa 200 Meter südlich davon, abgerissen.

Der alte Bahnhof wurde jahrzehntelang als Wohnung genutzt. Heute hat ein Modelleisenbahnclub hier sein Vereinslokal. Durch seine Lage konnte das Gebäude ohne grössere Veränderungen bestehen bleiben und gehört heute zu den ältesten überlebenden Bahnhofgebäuden der Schweiz.
