Catholic seminary for students from Upper Lusatia was established in 1705 by brothers Martin Norbert Šimon and George Joseph Šimon. When the original building was to small, brothers financed the construction of a larger building. Its foundation stone was laid 1726. The palace building, probably the work of famous Kilian Ignac Dienzenhofer, was completed 1728. On the corner of the building at first floor level is a statue of St. Peter from 1728 by a native of Upper Lusatia, a prominent sculptor Matej Václav Jäckel. The owner of the building was a canonry of Bautzen, therefore, it avoid cancellation of a seminar at the time of Joseph II. Today there is a library with an extensive collection of sorabik, named after the revivalist and leader of the Sorbs Michal Hórnik.
