Quick Description: Marker on a Victorian house in Marshall. The name on the marker is 'Hockwald.' For some reason, the name on the Texas Historical Commission's website is changed to 'Hochwald.'

An orphan, Isaac ("Ike") Hochwald (1865-1956) came to Marshall in 1877 as the ward of Lionel Kahn. He joined Kahn's mercantile firm and became a prosperous businessman. Hochwald was a school trustee, member of several fraternal groups, and one of the organizers of the East Texas Baseball League. He and his wife Amelia (Raphel) built this Victorian residence in 1894-95. Classical revival detailing was added in 1912. The Hochwald family lived here until 1956.
