Michael J. Hunter Park was named in honor of a young man from the area who lost his life serving our country in Vietnam. The monument is located on S. Chickasaw Avenue on the south side of the park.

This is a pink granite monument which reads: "Michael J. Hunter Memorial Park / Born 1946 - Died 1967 / Dedicated to the memory of Michael J. Hunter who was killed in action by hostile enemy fire on Mar. 27, 1967 while servig his country with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Awarded Vietnam Cross for Gallantry, Purple Heart and Bronze Star with V Device for Bravery. Attended L'Ouverture School and esteemed by the community."
