Located in an outdoor garden area on the southwest corner of Duke Street and Broadway, this sculpture is active and fascinating, causing you to look deeper into what is really happening.

Sculptor Vic Payne is a well-known Western sculptor who has pieces on display throughout the U.S. and abroad. His themes are usually the early West, with Native Americans, cowboys and the birds and animals which were so prevalent. Many of his sculptures are fluid, with action moments of fighting, defending, and living the life that the early frontier required.

This sculpture is 6 ft. high and shows an Indian with headdress standing over a deer he has just killed. But, he is also fending off a large mountain lion in full leap from above. The detail, and the technology required to show this action, and the mountain lion attacking is fascinating. On the base is the sculptor's name and the year 2002.
