Hugo, OK is known as "Circus City-USA". Its association with the circus began in 1937 when prominent traveling Kelly Miller Circus chose this area for their wintering grounds. Over the past 80 years, circuses have been spending the colder months hunkered down in Hugo with their animals.
Across from the historic Frisco Depot is Frisco Depot Park (a.k.a. Lion's Park (named after another type of lion). It has a gazebo, a Centennial clock, and this fiberglass statue of a life-sized lion. It is tinted gold and yellow and reminds visitors that Hugo has a rich history in circus-related animals.
