On display in City Hall Plaza is an Ordnance QF 25-pounder, the major British field gun and howitzer used during the Second World War, mounted on on its firing platform. In the upper left corner of the shield contains a bronze plaque which contains the inscription.

This is oldest monument in City Hall Plaza honoring veterans from western Newfoundland. Newer monuments honor veterans of Afghanistan, World War I, women veterans and a multi-war monument.
