Located at the main crossroads of Hanches, the current building once also housed the communal school and the director's home. The construction of an extension in 2015 has improved the reception of the public and the work of elected officials.
The municipality of Hanches is located east of the department of Eure-et-Loir, about 30 km north-east of Chartres; it adjoins the department of Yvelines. Its territory is between Epernon and Maintenon, crossed by RD 906 connecting Chartres to Rambouillet.
Hanches is crossed by the valley of the Drouette and, to the south-east, by the valley of the Voise. Drouette and Voise are both tributaries of the Eure.
At the 1999 census, the municipality of Hanches had 2313 inhabitants. In January 2004, this figure reached 2534 inhabitants. As of January 1, 2014, the population is estimated at 2685 inhabitants.
