The square is characterized by an elevated central level, accessible through short vaults, on which are arranged two statues of crouching lions, called leones, which are at the origin of the name of the place. The two sculptures, made by Giovanni Bonazza in 1722, are in red marble from Cottanello (from the homonymous country in the province of Rieti).
