The The City of Pittsfield Artscape Committee has chosen the artists for the second phase of their paintbox program. The utility boxes were painted July 2017 and were unveiled on July 20, 2017 during the Third Thursday street fair.
Dorothy Martell created this utility box titled "Bubbles". The front has a large number of colored bubbles of various sizes painted against a brown background. The left side has a young boy sitting back on his legs while blowing bubbles. The right side has an older boy surrounded by bubbles. He is standing on his toes while reaching up with both hands. Both sides contain meters are are painted with green circles against a white background.
The back, which is unpainted, is about 4 inches from the YMCA building wall and, hence, could not be photographed.
Artscape's Facebook Page has images of the creation of the painted utility boxes. (
