An information board and map at Castle Wharf (near the Magistrates Court) on the Nottingham Canal, Nottingham, which gives a little information about the industrial history of this area.
"The canal was built to bring coal into the city from the mines scattered around the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire border. Only minutes from the city centre Castle Wharf was once busy with canal boats loading and unloading cargo.
Today the canal provides a vital link for boaters to bypass an unnavigable section of the River Trent. You can follow the towpath to the River Trent at Victoria Embankment, or escape into the countryside along the Big Track towards Beeston.
The Canal & River Trust is the charity that ensures our waterways are here for everyone to enjoy, now and forever."
