Located in Fort Jones Cemetery and atop a small knoll as part of a veterans section and next to a flagpole is a memorial with an inscription that reads:
ERECTED BY FT.
JONES BOY SCOUTS MAY 30, 1913, TO OUR SOLDIERS BURRIED HERE |
I found the spelling of the word 'BURRIED' interesting and wonder if it was intentional since I've never seen it spelled that way.
The famous grave of John King Luttrell who was a U.S. Congressman is buried nearby this memorial. He was a Sergeant of Arms for the California State Assembly during the American Civil War from 1861-1865.
Type of Memorial: Non-Specific Memorial
In Honor Of: For Our Soldiers Burried Here
Marker Text: Read above.
Date of dedication: May 30, 1913
Who Put it Here?: Fort Jones Boy Scouts
Description of Memorial: This memorial is located next to a flagpole as part of the veterans section of Fort Jones cemetery. This headstone-shaped memorial blends in with other headstones here and is almost unnoticeable here. The cemetery is beautifully maintained and worth the visit.
