This ornate rectangular stone plaque for Thomas & Catherine Lace; also their eldest daughter Catherine Langlands is mounted on an interior wall of the Church.
The plaque features a ‘leaf design’ border and has the following inscription:
‘IN MEMORY OF
THOMAS & CATHERINE E. LACE
(1828-1882) (1831 -1915)
Of Kerrowdhoo & Granaby.
And CATHERINE LANGLANDS
THEIR ELDEST DAUGHTER
1851 - 1945’
The 1851 Census records Thomas (23) and Catherine as being married and living at Granaby with the baby daughter Catherine who is 10 months old. Thomas is recorded as being a farmer.
The 1861 and 1871 Census returns show the Lace family at Granaby growing and that Thomas remains as a farmer. It is not clear from the publicly available Census records exactly what happens to the Lace family after this time but Thomas, Catherine and their daughter are recorded on headstones in Bride old Grave Yard (
