The white plastic laminate sign is riveted to a metal sheet, and screwed to one of the wooden posts of the Lookout. It reads:
"The Trig Point Lookout
was opened by
the Hon Mark Birrell MP,
Minister for Conservation and Environment
11 September, 1993
The Lookout was constructed by Gardens staff
with a grant from the Parks and Waterways
Program of Melbourne Water and support from
the Maud Gibson Trust."

He became the leader of the Liberal Party in 1988, and leader of the Upper House in 1992 (through to 1999). He served as the Minister for Conservation and Environment, and Minister for Major Projects. He left politics after the 2002 election.
On a nearby supporting Post, is another sign, which if it is a stormy day you NEED to take note of:
"Lightning Warning
There is a high risk that lightning will strike the lookout during a thunderstorm.
For your personal safety, do not stand on the lookout or shelter beneath it during a thunderstorm. [Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne]"
