Interest for a library started with meetings in 1923. The library has had several locations. The library has been part of the four County Library system since 1949.

"In 1977, Daisy "Dasa" Harris bequeathed her 1875 Victorian Italianate-Style house to the village of Otego, with the stipulation that the building be used as a library. Harris spent part of her life as a traveling companion to the well-to-do. The Harris house was ultimately unsuitable for library use because of its many small rooms. In 1980, an addition was attached to the house to serve as the library. "
