The monumental statue, sculpted by Antonio Dal Zotto, shows a larger-than-life Carlo Goldoni standing, his left arm behind his back and holding a walking stick with his righ hand.

The plaque commemorating the 200th anniversary of his birth reads:

"A
Carlo Goldoni
Venezia
1707 - 1907"

Carlo Goldoni was born in Venice in 1707 in the Gothic palace called Ca' Centanni. Carlo Goldoni is one of the most famous playwrights of Italy and wrote over 200 plays describing the life of the city.

His works include some of Italy's most famous and best-loved plays. Audiences have admired the plays of Goldoni for their ingenious mix of wit and honesty. His plays offered his contemporaries images of themselves, often dramatizing the lives, values, and conflicts of the emerging middle classes. (visit link)
