West of the historic Frisco Depot is a park sponsored by the Hugo Lion's Club. It is a long, rectangular area bordering on Highway 70, between C and D Streets. The park has a very nice gazebo, a Centennial Clock placed in 2007, the 100th anniversary of Oklahoma Statehood, and a time capsule.
Someone has had the foresight to salvage the name and date panels off several 100 plus year old buildings when they had to be demolished. Those stone panels are on display in the park. "Darrough Block 1910" and the "Winne Hotel" to name a couple.
There are fiberglass sculptures of lions, which is very appropriate since the town of Hugo has been the wintering spot for circuses since 1937. The local cemetery has a large section dedicated to circus performers, called "Showman's Rest".
Also on display is an old Davenport narrow gauge steam engine which is very interesting to see.
The park is a work in progress and we expect many more items to be added in the years to come.
