The stylized maple leaf on the Cauldron is similar to the maple leaf on the logo chosen for Ottawa's 150th anniversary.
The structure — which is comprised of a solid base with a spiky, angular top that resembles a maple leaf — was lit at a special celebration on New Year’s Eve.
A flame up to two metres tall shot from the top of the structure when it was lit.
