Charakteristické pro toto území jsou písecné presypy, tvorené témer cistými kremennými zrny, s nepatrnou prímesí jiných materiálu. Písky jsou prakticky neschopné dalšího zvetrávání. Mocnost písku na tomto odlesneném území dosahuje až 30 m; na konci doby ledové (pred 9 až 12 tisíci lety) je sem navály vetry od blízké reky Moravy. Podle laboratorních rozboru jsou písky svým složením shodné s písky asijské poušte Gobi.


Vojenské cvicište Bzenec je území chránené jako prírodní památka. Bylo zrízeno v roce 1994 k ochrane jedné z posledních lokalit otevrených jihomoravských píscin zvaných "Moravská Sahara". Nachází se u silnice mezi mesty Bzenec a Strážnice. Rozkládá se na ploše 36,8 ha na bývalém vojenském cvicišti, jehož zásluhou nebylo území památky v drívejší dobe zalesneno a zustaly zde odkryty váté písky s roztroušeným porostem borovice.
Lokalita je cenná zejména pro výskyt vzácných a chránených druhu hmyzu a pavouku. V rezervaci jsou významná pískomilná rostlinná spolecenstva.

Characteristic of this area are sandy dump, made up of almost pure quartz grains, with a slight admixture of other materials. Sands are virtually inoperable for further weathering. The power of sand in this deforested area reaches up to 30 m; at the end of the ice age (9 to 12 thousand years ago) there are winds from the nearby river Morava. According to laboratory analyzes, the sands are composed of the sands of the Gobi Desert of Asia.


Bzenec military training ground is a protected area as a natural monument. It was established in 1994 to protect one of the last locality of the open-air South Moravian Sands called "Moravian Sahara". It is located on the road between Bzenec and Strážnice. It covers an area of ??36.8 hectares on a former military training ground, thanks to which the territory of the monument has not been afforested in the past, and there are exposed sands of sand with scattered pine trees.
The site is particularly valuable for rare and protected species of insects and spiders. In the reservation there are significant gerbilous plant communities.
