Driving south on Highway 271 from Hugo, OK you arrive at the Red River and know you are "fixin' to enter Texas." Immediately to the west of the bridge is a large steel truss railroad bridge. The brown, muddy Red River passes beneath you, and you're in Texas. Immediately you see a green sign reading "Lamar County" - you are approaching the town of Arthur City. About a quarter-mile down the road, you come to a granite monument in the shape of Texas and behind that a sign saying "Welcome to Texas". Continuing down the highway about a mile, at the intersection of Highway 197, a large grain silo is painted "Welcome to Texas."
Returning on this same highway, you cross the Red River and about 300 ft. further you see a sign "Entering Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma". You have crossed over not only to the State of Oklahoma, but to the Nation of the Choctaws. About a quarter-mile further along, you see a concrete and granite sign "OKLAHOMA".
The photo gallery will show you each of these points along the routes.
