The Town:

Oeschgen is a municipality in the district of Laufenburg in the canton of Aargau with a population of approximately 970 inhabitants.

The area belonged in the Middle Ages to the county Homburg-Thierstein, which was inherited in 1232 by the Habsburgs. A few years later, in 1234 Oeschgen was first mentioned in a document. In contrast to the other municipalities in the area, Habsburg possessed less competencies in Oeschgen, since the lower jurisdiction had been sold to the barons of Schönau in 1475. These also built a small castle in the village center in 1592, which they used as a summer residence. This division remained until the dissolution of Further Austria in 1797. After the French occupation, Oeschgen became part of Switzerland in 1802, since 1803 it belongs to the canton of Aargau.

Oeschgen remained predominantly agricultural until the 20th century. Even the opening of the railway line in 1875 did not change much, although it leads over community area, Oeschgaen has no own train station until today. It was not until the opening of the A3 motorway in 1973 that the construction activities began to increase as the beginning of a transformation into a commuter and residential community, a development that still continues today.

The Town Hall:

The town hall of Oeschgen stands in the village center next to the castle. The house is probably a former farmhouse, which was renovated in the late 20th century and greatly changed. Two different parts of the building are under a common gabled roof, the right part is now the town hall, in the wood-clad left part, probably the former barn and stable, the municipal operations center has its headquarters.

Oeschgen ist eine Gemeinde im Bezirk Laufenburg im Kanton Aargau mit etwa 970 Einwohnern.

Die Gegend gehörte im Mittelalter zur Grafschaft Homburg-Thierstein, die 1232 von den Habsburgern geerbt wurde. Kurze Zeit später, 1234 wurde Oeschgen erstmals in einer Urkunde erwähnt. Im Gegensatz zu den anderen Gemeinden der Gegend besass Habsburg aber in Oeschgen weinger Kompetenzen, da die niedere Gerichtsbarkeit 1475 an die Freiherren von Schönau verkauft worden war. Diese bauten 1592 auch ein Schlösschen im Dorfzentrum, das sie als Sommerresidenz nutzten. Diese Teilung blieb bis zur Auflösung von Vorderösterreich 1797 bestehen. Nach der französichen Besetzung wurde Oeschgen 1802 Teil der Schweiz, seit 1803 gehört es zum Kanton Aargau.

Oeschgen blieb bis ins 20. Jahrhundert stark landwirtschaftlich geprägt. Auch die Eröffnung der Eisenbahnlinie 1875 änderte nicht viel daran, sie führ zwar über Gemeindegebiet, Oeschgaen hat aber bis heute keinen eigenen Bahnhof. Erst mit der Eröffnung der Autobahn A3 1973 wurde verstärkt gebaut und eine Transformierung in eine Pendler- und Wohngemeinde setzte ein, eine Entwicklung, die bis heute anhält.

Die Gemeindeverwaltung:

Die Gemeindeverwaltung von Oeschgen steht im Dorfzentrum neben dem Schlösschen. Das Haus ist vermutlich ein ehemalliges Bauernhaus, das im späten 20. Jahrhundert renoviert und stark verändert wurde. Zwei unterschiedliche Gebäudeteile sind unter einem gemeinsamen Satteldach, der rechte Teil ist heute die Gemeindeverwaltung, im holzverkleideten linken Teil, wahrscheinlich früher Stall und Scheune, hat der Gemeindewerkhof seine Zentrale.
