This pub sign features three golden crowns on a blue shield set on a white background.
The ‘Three Crowns’ on the pub sign derive from the coat of arms of St. Edmund who was the first Patron Saint of England before he was replaced by the now more familiar St. George.
St. Edmund had close associations with England and a shield of three golden crowns, placed two above one, on a background, has been used for centuries as a symbol for the area. This coat of arms was ascribed by mediaeval heralds to the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of East Anglia and the Wuffingas dynasty which ruled it.
The present Three Crowns dates from 1932 when the surrounding office block was constructed. However, inside the Pub above the bar are latticed glass panes with stained borders which are survivors from an earlier pub.
The Three Crowns offers a range of cask ales and has CAMRA’s Cask Marque accreditation and offers 10% off cask ales to CAMRA members. A full drinks menu can be found on the Pub’s website: (
