A former lodge and attached archway, dated 1856, on Castle Grove/Lenton Road, Nottingham.
"Lodge, now house, and attached archway. 1856. By TC Hine of Nottingham. Altered mid C20. White brick, with red and blue brick, ashlar and stucco dressings. Coursed rubble and brick plinth, chamfered brick eaves cornice. Slate roofs. 2 storeys plus attics; 2 window range. Fronting Castle Grove, an octagonal turret, 2 storeys plus attics, with a truncated octagonal spire. Three 2-light ashlar mullioned windows with cusped heads, and above, 3 plain sashes, all with chamfered surrounds. Above again, on alternate faces, a through-eaves dormer with segmental pediment and ball finial. At the rear, a door with ornamental hinges. To right, a 2-light ashlar mullioned window with cusped head. Above it, a C20 through-eaves canted bay window, 3 lights, with segmental pediment. To left, spanning Castle Grove, a double chamfered segmental carriage arch. Stepped gable with moulded coping topped by a ball finial. Small chamfered datestone, 1856. This building was part of TC Hine's earliest phase of the development of the Castle Park for the Duke of Newcastle."
