On a cool September morning, smoke billowed in from the World Trade Center towers following a cowardly terrorist attack. Hundreds of people raced down the stairs to safety. As they did, they met the brave members of the New York City Fire Department racing up the stairs to an almost certain death. In total, 343 of our brothers made the ultimate sacrifice that day. On this date, September 11,2011, we dedicate this monument in their honor, so that we may never forget . . .
