This pillar is situated on the summit area of Brimmond Hill, the highest point of the City of Aberdeen at 266 metres high. The hill is slightly north of west of the city centre, around six miles away, near the boundary with Aberdeenshire. It is a heathery hill and prominent due to a number of telecommunications antenna littering the summit. The pillar is a passive station and is slightly lower than a nearby cairn. There are fine views west to the Grampian Mountains and east over the city and the North Sea.
STEEPNESS: Both routes to the summit, although initially steep, soon ease to a gentler gradient higher up.
TERRAIN: The route from the north is on tarmac, the route from the west is a rutted path through the heather.
ACCESSIBILITY: The summit can be reached easily from two access points from the north and west. Both are from car parks on country roads and are both just under a mile from the summit.
NAVIGATION: Both paths are easily followed to the summit. The pillar is alongside the cairn that marks the summit.
DANGER: None, although the tarmac route from the north is easier than the route from the west.
