The Elko City Hall is located at 1751 College Ave. Elko has a population of about 20,000 and is located on the Humboldt River. Elko was founded by the Central Pacific Railroad on December 29, 1868 at the east end tracks. As the railroad moved eastward the town became rail freight center for ranching and mining in the area. Elko County was established from Lander County. on March 5, 1869 and Elko became the county seat. The city of Elko was incorporated in 1917.
