The origin of this Pub name is not clear, but there is another pub called The Goat not far away in Kensington.

In addition to the pictorial pub sign there is a 'Goat Effigy'displayed on the Pub frontage.

The present Pub dates from 1878 when the building was rebuilt and the frontage was exetended on the west side with the creation of a wines and spiirt department, this part of the Pub is now incorporated into the bar area.

The Pub is just off Bond street and is sited where the great mansion Clarendon House ued to stand (visit link)

The first pub on this site was opened in 1686 (The Campaign for Real Ale claims that the Pub was first licensed in 1688) and there are records that indicate that in March 1697, William Underwood sold the remainder of his 52 year lease, on the property, to Robert Munden. The rent at that time was £6 per annum payable half yearly.

The Pub sells real ale and cider. The Pub has CAMRA 'Cask Marque Accreditation' and offers a 10% discount to CAMRA members on real ale.

The Pub offers lunchtime and evening meals and has additional seating upstairs.
