The first wharf here was built in 1865 to enable landing sternwheelers which ran the Shuswap River and Shuswap Lake. The sternwheelers ran up until the 1930s, when rail and road traffic made them obsolete. This wharf was rebuilt in 1986.

This 440 foot wharf extends north from Marine Park Drive into the Salmon Arm of Shuswap Lake. Salmon Arm is one of four arms of the lake and has given its name to the city of Salmon Arm. Part of Marine Peace Park, this long, curved wharf has a marina and a snack shop at the outer end. The wharf makes for a nice stroll out over the lake and affords a 360 degree view of the lake, mountains and the city of Salmon Arm.

Built of preserved wood on pilings driven into the lakebed, we have no idea how long this wharf has been here. In various incarnations, likely well over a century, as the lake was once a major transportation means, before there were many roads in the Shuswap. Today one may drive right up to the land end of the wharf and, if one is lucky, even park quite near the wharf.

Salmon Arm Wharf

The Salmon Arm wharf gives you a great opportunity to watch the local wildlife - (it is a popular place for birding) - and to just take in the beautiful Shuswap Lake and mountain scenery!

From this viewpoint you can watch the Western Grebe during their courtship season as they display their unique nesting rituals.

The first wharf was built in 1865, to accommodate large stern wheelers for transporting goods and people in and out of the Shuswap area.

Transport vessels travelled through these waters between Fortune's Landing in Enderby BC and Kamloops.

If you walk to the end of the wharf you'll find a small concession where you can enjoy an ice cream and the fresh mountain air.

There is a grassy Maring park next to the wharf where, during the summer months, Wednesday On the Wharf WOW Concerts, a series of summer Wednesday evening musical concerts takes place.

These events are free - though they take admission by donation - and are a fun way to enjoy local talent while you're here. Many locals and tourists attend this. If you bring your pet, it must be leashed.

If you're interested in water toy rentals like boats or Jet Skis you can find them at the Salmon Arm Wharf as well.

It's easy to find, just follow the signs from anywhere in the downtown area.
