Garvin was named after Isaac L. Garvin, chief of the Choctaw Nation from 1878 to 1880. A post office was established in Garvin on 2/19/1894. Garvin has centered around the timber industry, with companies involved in various wood services over the years. The population peaked in the 1910's at 957, dropping to 293 at the 1920 census. Today, there are approximately 250 residents in Garvin.
