The monument to Jean Paul Lemieux contains a life size bronze bust of the artist on top of a 6' tall granite base. The bust depicts Lemieux from the neck up. His hair is combed back and he is looking straight ahead.

The front of the base is inscribed:

Jean Paul Lemieux was born on November 18, 1904 in Quebec City, QC, Canada. He studied art at the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal before traveling to France 1929 to study and art. In 1934 he bagan a teaching career at the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal. In 1937, he moved to Quebec City and taught at the École des Beaux-Arts de Québec.

Jean Paul Lemieux was awarded the Louis-Philippe Hébert prize in 1971 and the Molson Prize for the Canada Council for the Arts in 1974. He was elected a Companion of the Order of Canada and a member of the Royal Canadian Academy. He died in Quebec City on December 7, 1990 and was posthumously made a Grand Officer of the National Order of Quebec in 1997.
