Located in the foothills of the Ouchita Mountains, Broken Bow was incorporated as a town in 1911. Its early beginning centered around the timber industry, and the town was named Broken Bow after the town of Broken Bow, Nebraska, where the owners of Dierks Lumber Company originated. Today, the town has agricultural roots, as well as a large chicken processing plant of Tyson. Lumber remains a mainstay, as well as tourism, since Broken Bow lies only twelve miles south of Beavers Bend State Park. The population is about 4300.
The City is run on a Council-Mayor form of government. Five councilmen are elected, from four wards and one at-large. This building houses the offices of the Mayor and Council, as well as the Clerk, the Municipal court, and various other city departments. The building is open Monday thru Friday from 8:00 - 4:00.
