Charles Edwin Rundell, and his wife are commemorated here by a bronze plaque on the side of the Great Alpine Road.

Charles Edwin Rundell, born in 1870, to Joshua Upcott Rundell (1829-1886) and Mary Ann (nee Brown: 1831-1877), in Axe Creek, Victoria, died in 1952 in Royal Park, Melbourne. [Ancestry.com]

The plaque is mounted on a rough stone block beside the road to Dinner Plain at the locality of Flour Bag Plain. The plaque reads:

	In memory of
Charles Edwin Rundell
	   1870-1952
	  and his wife
Catherine Amelia (Cousins)
	   1883-1969
       Who established the
	Alpine Lodge
      on this site in 1904
The lodge provided meals and accommodation
   and was also a change station for
	   coach horses
	Destroyed by fire
	   19.11.1928

On the north side of the road there is a brown "Historical Marker" sign, pointing to the opposite side of Great Alpine Road.
