[EN] "Avenches, near Lake Moravia, preserves the remains of its glorious past as the capital of Roman Helvetia, and the most impressive witnesses to its history are undoubtedly in the Roman amphitheater, where wonderfully preserved historical décor hosts music festivals that take advantage of the arena's special acoustics.
The Roman amphitheater of Avenches dates back to the 2nd century AD. The staircases, walls and main entrances of the amphitheater are masonry, while the stands are made of wood. The amphitheater was shut down in the 4th century and subsequently used as a quarry. In the 11th century, the Bishop of Lausanne had a fortified tower built on the eastern entrance, which today houses the Roman Museum. The thermal baths of the forum, the theater or the Tornallaz - the only one of the 73 towers of the fortification wall that has stood the test of time - have been uncovered, but most of the city of Aventicum has yet to be excavated.

In this extraordinary setting, a music event hunts the next one in the summer. In July, the Festival Avenches Opéra presents an excellent opera. In August, the smallest of the big festivals, Rock Oz'Arènes, with its diversified program design and the involvement of international rock stars, is triggering raptures. In September, the arena resounds with the sounds of the colorful international military music festival Avenches Tattoo."
