Driving east on the Turner Turnpike as you enter the Stroud area, you are startled to see this sand stone school high on a hill, all by itself, north of the Turnpike. Arriving at the spot, we found a large sign indicating that the school is in the process of being renovated and restored.
This is a one-story native sand stone two-room school which faces east on Old Stroud Road. The entrance is centered on the facade, and is slightly recessed and under a cross-gable porch roof. The entrance is flanked by double nine-over-nine windows. At the rear are two sets of ribbon windows set in groups of five and six. A central chimney at the rear would have heated both classrooms.
A concrete block embedded in the stone on the southeast corner reads: "Old Stroud / Dist. No. 53 / Built 1936".
The school was placed on the National Register in 1997.
