Wheatland School is a one-story two-room schoolhouse located on Kleiner Avenue. Wheatland is a town of approximately 300 residents in the far southwestern corner of Oklahoma City. The School is constructed of native sand stone and has a gable roof, with extended roof joists. At each end is a recessed corner entry with a wood door. A row of ribbon windows along the front is covered over with wood boards.
Near the center of the rear wall it a slanted entrance opening to a partial basement, which we imagine was a storm shelter. There is a single chimney at the center back wall which would have heated both classrooms.
The building is currently vacant, and covered with vines. The only documentation we could find for this being WPA constructed is on Page 38 of the Oklahoma Historical Society's State Historical Preservation Office "WPA Resources - Region 6 Oklahoma County" report. (
