Plaque Text:

The alarm bell was housed in the bell tower above the City Hall/Fire Station built in 1892. That building served the city's needs until 1963.

The bell was used to alert volunteer firemen and to notify policeman to return to the station. The bell's striker was electrified during World War II to serve as an air raid warning device.
