"The James E. Craig Memorial pavilion is dedicated to the memory of Jacksonville native, James Edwin Craig, the namesake of Jacksonville Executive at Craig Airport. He served his country with honor. After becoming an aviator in 1929, he served on board Wright, Arizona and Yorktown. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander in 1937 and commanded Torpedo Squadron 5 in 1938. In March 1939, he assumed command of Conyngham, and in 1941, became Damage Control Officer and First Lieutenant aboard Pennsylvania. During the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941, Lieutenant Commander Craig bravely took action to secure his ship and prepare his shipmates for the impending attack that ultimately took his life. His service and sacrifice will never be forgotten."
