The nave alone was the first chapel dedicated to St. Martin, great apostle of the fourth century very popular at that time in the region. Built out of Baincthun stones, we can still see the contours of them, examining the walls to the north and south of small semicircular windows, now closed.
The small north door, embellished with an archivolte in hug was the entrance to the Chapel. An inscription in Gothic letters means: "In the name of God and the Blessed Virgin Mother of Jesus Christ ..." the rest is unfortunately indecipherable.
In 1834, Father Fache undertook the construction of the nave. He had the walls elevated by "11 feet" (about four meters), where he built a new frame, made of local oak, and had it covered with purlins.
In 1837 there was the second construction of the choir frame, which was made of local oak but covered with English slates.
In 1846 and 1847, Mr. Fache completed the plan he had undertaken on the outside, he had the two arms of the cross made to prove the enlargement so long desired. He added two side chapels (including that of St Adrien) and a sacristy.

La nef constituait à elle seule la première chapelle dédiée à St Martin, grand apôtre du IV° siècle très en vogue à cette époque dans la région. Construite en pierres de Baincthun, on en devine encore les contours, en examinant les murs au nord et au sud de petites fenêtres à plein cintre, aujourd’hui bouchées.
La petite porte nord, rehaussée d’une archivolte en accolade était l’entrée de la Chapelle. Une inscription en lettres gothiques y signifie : « En nom de Dieu et Sainte Vierge Mère de Jésus Christ..." le reste est malheureusement indéchiffrable.
En 1834, Monsieur le curé Fache entreprit la construction de la nef. Il fit exhausser les murs de « 11 pieds » (quatre mètres environ », il y établit une charpente neuve, en chêne du pays et la fit couvrir de pannes.
En 1837 eut lieu la 2e construction de la charpente du chœur, laquelle fut faite en bois de chêne du pays mais recouverte en ardoises anglaises.
En 1846 et 1847, Mr Fache acheva à l’extérieur le plan qu’il avait entrepris, il fit faire les deux bras de croix qui devaient prouver l’agrandissement si longtemps désiré. Il y ajouta deux chapelles latérales (notamment celle de St Adrien) et une sacristie.
