FR Un lieu de pèlerinage chargé d’histoire?
Les pèlerins viennent nombreux à Notre-Dame des Grâces répondre à l’appel de la Vierge Marie. Apparue dans ce lieu en 1519, elle a promis de distribuer ici ses dons en abondance. Un pèlerin illustre, le roi Louis XIV, est venu la remercier du don de sa naissance.

Apparitions de Notre Dame à Cotignac
« Je suis la Vierge Marie. Allez dire au clergé et aux consuls de Cotignac de me bâtir ici même une église sous le vocable de Notre Dame de Grâces ; et qu’on y vienne en procession pour recevoir les dons que je veux y répandre ».

Dans son Histoire de Provence, Honoré Bouche rapporte ainsi les faits :
« Le 10 août, fête de saint Laurent, de l’an 1519, la Vierge Marie, accompagnée de saint Michel l’Archange et de saint Bernard, apparut dans les champs à un homme très pieux nommé Jean de la Baume, et lui commanda de dire, de sa part, au clergé et à la communauté de Cotignac qu’ils allassent, en procession, sur le Mont Verdaille, et qu’ils bâtissent une église, sous le nom de Notre Dame de Grâces, pour autant qu’elle voudrait faire plusieurs grâces et faveurs à ceux qui l’invoqueraient en ce lieu ». Le lendemain, au même endroit, la Vierge Marie renouvela sa demande lors d’une nouvelle apparition.

La construction d’une première chapelle commence très peu de temps après. Devenue très vite trop petite avec l’essor des pèlerinages et les miracles produits, un nouvel édifice lui succède tandis que la première communauté des Pères Oratoriens est chargée de l’accueil des pèlerins. En 1981, les frères de Saint Jean se voient confier le sanctuaire.

In his Histoire de Provence, Honoré Bouche reports the facts:
"On the 10th of August, feast of Saint Lawrence, of the year 1519, the Virgin Mary, accompanied by Saint Michael the Archangel and Saint Bernard, appeared in the fields to a very pious man named Jean de la Baume, and commanded him to say, on his part, to the clergy and the community of Cotignac that they were going, in procession, on the Mont Verdaille, and that they build a church, under the name of Our Lady of Graces, so far as that she would like to make many graces and favors to those who would invoke her in this place. " The next day, at the same place, the Virgin Mary renewed her request during a new apparition.

The construction of a first chapel begins very soon after. Having become too small with the rise of the pilgrimages and the miracles produced, a new building succeeds to him while the first community of the Oratorian Fathers is in charge of the reception of the pilgrims. In 1981, the brothers of Saint John are entrusted with the sanctuary.
