"Joseph “Joe” L. Pope, 83, of Kingdom City, passed away Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Mexico.
He was born Oct. 28, 1925, in Brumley, the son of the late G.B. and Charlsie (Helton) Pope. He married Irene Vandeloecht on Nov. 26, 1948 in Fulton. She survives at the home.
"He is also survived by one son, Michael Pope and wife Terry of Kingdom City; three daughters, Linda Rice and husband David of Mexico, Sherie Troisi and husband Tony of Palm Bay, Fla., and Patricia Hopkins and husband Bruce of Boerne, Texas; one brother, Jim Pope of Fulton; five sisters, Jean Bolton of Kingdom City, Dean Reed of Texas, Lucille Cobb of Springfield, Ruby Monk of Idaho, and Faye Humbird of Indiana. He is survived by 13 grandchildren, Jay, Richard and Paul Rice; Kathryn Westphal; Doug, Darren, and Drew Pope; Phillip, Anthony, Robert, Steven and Nicholas Vogt; and Jennifer Mattocks. He is survived by 12 great-grandchildren.
"A life long resident of Callaway county, he owned and operated a farm in Kingdom City. He was a rural letter carrier for 25 years, retiring in 1992. Joe was a Deacon and Trustee for the Richland Baptist Church. He loved to square dance and danced with the Callaway Calicos.
"Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Richland Baptist Church in Kingdom City with Rev. Larry Paris officiating. Burial will follow in Richland Baptist Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Debo Funeral Home in Fulton.
