Nearby is a memorial to Josiah Gregg, who blazed a trail through this area between 1831 and 1840. Also acknowledged on the memorial are the Forty-Niners, who used some of Gregg's route as they headed towards California to seek gold, as well as the Palo Duro High School youth, who continue with the same spirit of adventure, courage, and aspirations of those who passed by here so long ago.
