One of two British cannons atop Burlington Heights. There are additional guns on the grounds of nearby Dundurn Castle.

This cannon is one of two British guns set up on Burlington Height overlooking Hamilton Harbour. This was a strategic location of the British Army during the War of 1812. Today the area is a park (Harvey Park) and is designated as the Burlington Heights National Historic Site of Canada (

This British Blomfield Smoothbore Muzzleloading Gun was cast by the Carron Company of Scotland in 1807. "71041 CARRON 1807" is stamped into left trunnion, and "24 P" is stamped in to the right trunnion. Additionally, the royal cipher of King George III is located on top.
A plaque has been added onto the cannon. It reads:

Two similar cannons are on display at Battlefield Park in nearby Stoney Creek: a pair of SBML 32-pounders cast by the Samuel Walker Company, with serial numbers 163 (

visit link) It was from here at Burlington Height that the British set out for a daring night attack on US forces encamped at Stoney Creek. The resulting battle (The Battle of Stoney Creek) is largely considered to be a major turning point in the war of 1812.
Another pair of "WCo" 24-pounders are located in Downtown Hamilton's Gore Park, with serial numbers 130 and 150. (
