This grey granite Broken Column memorial next to the Great Alpine Road, Ensay, is for the 33 local soldiers who served and died in World War One, and World War Two.

Facing up the sloping hillside from the column (Great Alpine Road side), the grey granite, upper face of the base of the Broken Column is for 'the Great War' [World War One], and reads:
   "GREAT WAR
    1914 - 1918
 A Tribute of Love
Erected by Parents
   and Friends
 in Sacred Memory of
 Our Fallen Soldiers
 Who Gave Their Lives
for God King & Country
   Lest We Forget"
Then, on the other three upper faces are the soldier's names, and their ages.

Grey granite 'Broken Column' on a 1.8 metre tall square grey granite base. In a 'horse-shoe' shaped concrete surround with large rectangular boulders making a border to the uphill section.
