The plaque on the boulder reads:
	Tambo Crossing

Latitude	S37° 30' 15.4"
Longitude	E147° 36' 55.0"
Altitude: 156.58 metres

This spot marks the centre of Tambo Crossing,
at the junction of the Old Coach Road to Omeo
and today's highway.

The Sir Walter Scott Hotel and post office stood
here 1890-1961, with the public hall and school
300 metres to the west.

The original river crossing was less than 500
metres to the south east as were the McDougall
Inn, store and family cemetery.
