"As a place name Stocks Hill is thought to originate from the use of the area as a market place for the selling of livestock. The use of the space for this purpose is well documented but considered to be mainly at a local scale as the main drove roads of the time could not pass through the village as a result of the forest that surrounded it.
Like most settlements Silverstone had its own abattoir and this was located next to the current White Horse public house on the square with remnants of this use still to be found in the building until quite recently. In addition to its use as a market square Stocks Hill was also the home of the village stocks although these were removed in 1866."

These are very likely a replica, but mark the place where the original village stocks used to be.
