Sgorr nam Fiannaidh, (Peak of the Fianns), is a 967 metre, 3173 feet, mountain (Munro) on the north side of Glen Coe. It is the western summit of the famous and notorious Aonach Eagach, the notched ridge high above the glen.

The pillar sits on the summit in the middle of a circular stone windbreak. The pillar was also built of stone but the ravages of time have reduced it to a foot high stump. Nonetheless the flushbracket is still intact on the eastern side.

STEEPNESS: A serious undertaking from any direction. The quickest and easiest route from Glencoe Village to the west starts almost at sea level and climbs unrelentlessly until around a quarter of a mile from the summit where the gradient eases on a ridge. This part is relatively easy.

TERRAIN: A well worn path, muddy in places lower down, climbs up the hillside to the col with the Pap of Glencoe. From here the path continues but soon reaches scree which is difficult in places. Once up on the ridge the path disappears but the going is easy on stony ground all the way to the summit.

ACCESSIBILITY: Quickest from Glencoe Village to the west. From the public car park in the village it is two and a half miles to the summit. The minor road running east out of the village reaches a track heading north-westwards up the hillside, (signposted Pap of Glencoe Sgorr na Ciche). There is also a car park within the forest just outside the village on the north side of the road.

NAVIGATION: The well worn path makes navigation easy in the lower reaches. A cairn marks the junction of the routes to the Pap and the Munro, (take the right fork). From here it is a case of following the path, indistinct in places especially in the scree, up to the ridge. Once on the ridge keep to the higher ground until the stone windbreak of the summit appears.

DANGER: No great difficulties from the west apart from the climb and areas of scree. The Aonach Eagach route from the east however requires rock climbing skills with no escape routes.
