US Army Corporal Charles C Fowler was killed in action during WWI and was buried in France. His memorial tombstone stands in Cottonwood Cemetery next to his parents, John and Eliza (Cox) Fowler, in their family plot in rural Kaufman County TX.

According to Ancestry, Charles C. Fowler was a Corporal in the 359th Infantry Battlion, 90th Infantry Division, US Army Expeditionary Force. He was buried with full military honors at the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery at Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
