AM0532 - BAY CITY EAST MUNICIPAL TANK - Bay City, TX - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

As described by the CGS in 1952:

"THE STATION IS LOCATED NEAR THE EAST EDGE OF BAY CITY IN THE SOUTHEAST ANGLE OF 6TH STREET AND KATY AVENUE. IT IS AN EIGHT-LEGGED TUBULAR STEEL STRUCTURE SUPPORTING THE TANK PROPER, HAS A DOME SHAPED ROOF WITH A LIGHT AT THE TOP AND CENTER AND AN OVER-ALL HEIGHT OF 130.0 FEET. THE POINT OBSERVED UPON WAS THE TOP AND CENTER OF THE ROOF."

The CGS description of the water tower -- including overall shape and height -- is still correct, and so are its street references (it's on the SE corner of 6th St and Katy Ave). The benchmark in question -- the light at the top and center of the tank roof -- is also still there as described.

The NGS' currently posted coordinates ("N 28 58 55.25264 W 095 57 03.65475", or "N 28° 58.921 W 095° 57.061") were in line with my observations while on site.

The station was recovered in good condition.
