CR1278 - LOVE LOOKOUT TOWER - Mt Selman, TX - U.S. Benchmarks on Waymarking.com

As described by the CGS in 1958:

"STATION IS LOCATED ABOUT 4 MILES NORTH OF JACKSONVILLE, ABOUT 3 MILES SOUTH OF MT. SELMAN AND ABOUT 100 FEET EAST OF U.S. HIGHWAY 69. THE LOOKOUT HOUSE IS SUPPORTED BY A FOUR LEGGED STEEL STRUCTURE, AND HAS AN OVERALL HEIGHT OF 130 FEET. THE TOP AND CENTER WAS THE POINT INTERSECTED. TO REACH THE STATION FROM THE POST OFFICE IN MT. SELMAN GO SOUTH ON U.S. HIGHWAY 69 FOR 2.8 MILE TO THE LOOKOUT TOWER ON THE LEFT AS DESCRIBED."

Its detailed description and height are still correct, and so are the distances in reference to the stated cities and US Hwy 69... this one is truly hard to miss once in the area!

The NGS' currently posted coordinates ("N 32 01 48.54937 W 095 16 50.17293", or "N 32° 1.809 W 95° 16.836') were in line with my observations/calculations while on site.

Also, please note that there is a more 'traditional' U.S. benchmark (NGS PID "CR0370", designation "D 1161") just a few yards from the lookout tower, also quite easy to locate/recover:

The station was recovered in good condition.
