Bronze sculpture and plaque commemorating the actions of SGT Garcia on Dec. 8, 1968, while serving in Vietnam. On that day SGT Garcia attacked a machine gun bunker and in so doing saving the lives of his entire platoon.

The statue and plaque are located next to the non-specific war memorial. It is a life-size statue created by artist Lisa Perry.
Waco Tribune-Herald NewspaperSGT Garcia served three tours in Vietnam in over a decade in the Army. For battlefield actions in 1968, the Corsicana native was posthumously award the Medal of Honor in 2014. He was also awarded a Silver Star, a Bronze Star, and a Purple Heart.
Garcia, who was 68 when he died on Jan. 10, 2013, is buried in the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
